Obituary For Marilyn Lynette McDonald

Marilyn Lynette (Spencer) McDonald, 75, of Brimley Michigan passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2023. She was born July 15, 1947 in Greenville, Michigan to John and Mary Spencer (Santoma).

Marilyn graduated from Brimley High School in 1965. In 1967 she was to married Donald (Mick) McDonald they had a son John and a daughter Kari.

Marilyn worked at Olofson's Fabrication for many years before starting her career, working for Chippewa County as an Administrative Assistant in 1985. She was very proud to have been involved in the restoration of the courthouse building. She was elected County Treasurer and held that position starting in 1993 until retiring in 2008. During her time there, she met many people and made lifelong friendships. Throughout her life she was involved in many sports, including the Lake Superior State Women's fastpitch softball team, Dondee bowling league, Soo Women's city league softball and country league softball. She competed in many National tournaments with her bowling teammates Chris, Lori, Barb, and Ann. She also competed in many Women's State softball tournaments with her many teammates. She enjoyed many years of traveling with friends on vacations and cruises around the world, watching her grandchildren play sports and various activities. You could always find her cheering them on at any of their sporting events (she rarely missed a game). She always looked forward to summer gatherings with her friends at Yvonne and Jerry's cabin on the lake in Brimley and Friday night dinners at the Cozy "Pete's" in Brimley.

Marilyn is survived by her son, John (Missy) McDonald; son-in-law, Tony Willis; grandchildren, Tara Horka, Taylor McRorie, Toni Willis, Ethan McDonald, Myah McDonald; and great grandchild, Lillie Horka.

Marilyn is predeceased by her parents; and daughter, Kari Willis.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday January 26, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1101 Minneapolis St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with Father Romeo Cappella officiating. Final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Following Mass the family invites you to join them in the O'Callaghan Hall at St. Joseph's Church for fellowship and sharing of memories. Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
